President's Message May 2008
Sunday, 25 May 2008 13:00
Welcome to the Porsche Club Malaysia Website!
In June 1998, a group of Porsche owner-enthusiasts met after office at Autonet Sdn Bhd at Lot 5, Jalan 19/1A, Seksyen 19, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, and agreed to set up a club for Porsche owners throughout Malaysia. A
Pro-tem Committee was duly elected and they set to work to form the club. After all the hard work, the club was duly registered on 23rd December 1998 under the Societies Act 1966.
Since then, the Club has grown from strength to strength. The Club holds frequent track-days, originally at the Shah Alam Motor Racing Circuit at Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, Selangor, and later at the Sepang International Circuit. I remember our Club members convoyed to Sepang and were amongst the first to visit the SIC even whilst it was under construction. In addition, there were frequent get-togethers, Sunday morning drives, petrol-head gatherings, annual Drive-Of-The-Year events to neighbouring countries, and of course our Annual Dinner & Dance!

Did you know…?
The Porsche 901 made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in September of 1964. It was halted after only 82 units were built.
(On the 27th of October in 1964, the first model with the type designation 911 was delivered) because of a trademark-infringement protest from Peugeot.
French car maker Peugeot objected to Porsche using any three digit number where the middle number was 0, having already sold many models with that scheme, and owning the naming rights.
So, Porsche simply replaced the middle 0 with a 1, and called the new car Porsche 911 before the first cars were delivered.
Did you know…?
The original Porsche 911, introduced in 1964, boasted an impressive 130 hp @ 6100 rpm and a top speed of about 130 mph (209 km/h). By comparison, the 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S boasts 444 hp @ 5,700 rpm and a top track speed of 190 mph (305 km/h).
Did you know…?
The first Porsche model, the type 7 was named as such because Ferdinand Porsche didn’t want his investors to know it was his first car, so he called it the type 7 to make them believe it was his 7th model.
Did you know…?
The 1988 Porsche Varrera was a prototype based on the Porsche tuned VW Sharan minivan
Did you know…?
Renowned seat maker Recaro was formerly a division of Porsche and it used to produce car bodies.
Did you know…?
The K in the model name Porsche 917K stands for Kurzheck, German for Short Tail
Did you know…?
Porsche say that the Boxster based Cayman is named after the Cayman alligator because the roof line looks like an alligator's head in the water.

Sponge lining problem in 996
Sunday, 07 June 2009 14:46

Is anyone else in PCM facing this problem?
one of our members is facing problems with the sponge lining of his 996
"I own a GT3 996 (year 2000), and noted that after a drive to Penang n back, there were bits of sponge lining which seemed to have disintegrated from somewhere in the car and was coming into the car cabin via the air-conditioning ducts (see attachment). I wonder if this is a common occurrence in the Tropics or at least in Malaysia?"

That famous race between Hakka and Schuey in Macau F3 1990. Even way back then Schuey was a bastard and blocked Hakka and made him ditch

French GP in Djion 1979. It's famous for being the first race to be won by a Turbo car, and the first French car driven by a French man to win the French GP. But more importantly it's more famously known as the best ever wheel-to-wheel racing in F1 EVER between Villenueve and Arnoux!! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sDtn8QnpFg
Another classic: Senna driving into the rear of Brundle at the 89 Adelaide GP in heavy rain. He didn't see anything!!! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvbfMJA6zss
Haha, Senna gives Schuey a word of advice... - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cz2NPHXgvU
This is cool! Alesi in a 3L normally-aspirated Tyrrell hassles Senna around Phoenix at the 1990 US GP. Hilariously good showing up of Senna! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEZEFZArU_M
Monaco 1984. This race was magic. Pissing wet, Prost in the McLaren is chased by a new no name called Senna in the Toleman, who in turn is chased by Bellof in the Tyrrel. Fantastic. Sadly Bellof died the next year when his 956 went straight on at the Eau Rouge chicane at Spa. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEw50pYtsPY
...and here it is. I recall Ickx ran over to try and help his teammate, but it was already too late. FYI till today, Stefan Bellof holds the outright lap record for the Nordslieffe, in a Porsche of course. May he rest in peace.. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sP_F66NB6Q
..once you've seen this video of him racing at the 'Ring! Madness. Faster than everything else! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqFrqLBcCGk
*If you're a fan of the 956 era, search "Derek Bell On board 956" in youtube and waste another hour watching most of the tracks of the 85 season. Sadly it didn't include Batu Tiga, I guess that track was too primitive to make the video release.
Yes, we actually held one round of the World Endurance Championship. There's hardly any evidence left of it though, but there's a wiki entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_800_km_of_Selangor. Porsche won as usual, this time in Rothmans colours..
